Trial set for owner of former Vick dogfighting HQ

SURRY, Va. (AP) -- A woman accused of mistreating animals at Michael Vick's former dogfighting headquarters is due in court in Surry County.

The Virginian-Pilot reports that Tamira Thayne's trial on misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty and inadequate care of animals is set for Tuesday in General District Court.

Thayne is the director of Dogs Deserve Better, a dog-rescue group housed in Vick's former home. She was charged in August after an inspection of the facility by a Surry Animal Control officer and a state veterinarian. Officials said they had received complaints that 10 dogs were not receiving adequate care.

Thayne has denied any wrongdoing.

Vick, a quarterback with the Philadelphia Eagles, served 18 months in federal prison after pleading guilty in 2007 to charges related to a dogfighting operation at the house.
