Golden Eagle returns to wild

Posted:

GRANDVIEW (WVVA) - A caged bird finally got to use its wings on Monday.

A Golden Eagle, nicknamed Golden Boy, was found in Monroe County last November with a broken toe in a trap set for bobcats and coyotes.

Today, Golden Boy's seven-foot wingspan lifted him from Grandview's main overlook.

Golden Boy's caretakers will be able to track his journeys over the next three to four year via satellite transmitter.

Wendy Perrone, executive director of the Three Rivers Avian Center says that West Virginia is a popular winter stop for Golden Eagles flying south form Canada.
