Historic Mount Hope school demolition in question

Posted:

MOUNT HOPE (WVVA) - State Preservation officials are questioning Mount Hope's plan to tear down a historic old school building.

The two-story structure is located in the city's historic district.

The state Historic Preservation Office says the building is a contributing resource to the district and its demolition would have a negative effect.

The building was constructed in the 1920s and was condemned after a fire in 2006.

Mayor Michael Martin says that he doesn't want to jeopardize the city's historic district.

Martin says consultants are preparing a response to the Preservation Office's concerns.
