UPDATE: Driver killed in I-77 crash identified


BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - One person was killed after a tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 77 near Bluefield Friday, Mercer County 911 dispatch tells WVVA News.

The crash occurred shortly before 9 a.m. on I-77 North, near mile marker 3.

Witnesses said the roll of steel the truck was hauling shifted, causing the truck to overturn on its top.

Traffic was at a standstill in both directions as crews worked to cleared the scene. As of 11:25 a.m. traffic in both lanes was moving slowly.

The driver has been identified as Lester Walker Jr. of Connelsville, Pa.

The West Virginia State Police is investigating.
