Improving West Virginia's Bioscience Industry

West Virginia's bioscience industry is helping to diversify the state's economy.

From Wheeling to Morgantown to Bluefield, researchers are giving the state economy a boost and their discoveries are helping heal, feed and fuel the world.

Since 2000 bioscience employment has increased 22 %, and industry experts are meeting this week in Charleston to see how to grow the bioscience industry even more.

"I think there are a lot of opportunities, particularly when you look at students and faculty at universities who have ideas or have that entrepreneur spirit where you are not just thinking about is there going to be a job for me when I graduate but can I create my own job," said Derek Gregg, Chairman, BIO West Virginia

Four in ten bioscience jobs are in drugs and pharmaceuticals, which has a specialized employment concentration in the state.
