Big band music comes to Bluefield College

BLUEFIELD--- Brass 5 brings the big band music to Bluefield college in a live concert.

One of the region's most prolific instrumental ensembles will bring one of America's most popular music eras to the stage when Brass 5 performs big band music live in concert at Bluefield College, Tuesday, February 26.

Sponsored by Blue Mountain Performing Arts, the Brass 5 concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Harman Chapel, and admission for the event, a part of the Blue Mountain and Bluefield College Performing Arts Series, will be $15 for adults and $10 for students. Blue Mountain members will be admitted with their season tickets.

One of America's most successful instrumental groups, Brass 5 has been an active part of the Mid-Atlantic arts scene for three decades. The band performs a vast repertoire of music, from Renaissance and classical to Dixieland, jazz, rock and country.
 
Based in Roanoke, Virginia, they have been featured on local public radio programs and have performed live on National Public Radio. Eager to create exciting music, Brass 5 has been featured in concerts throughout the Mid-Atlantic United States and Europe.
 
Their show at Bluefield College will feature, in addition to their typical selections,songs from the Big Band era. In a nostalgic trip back to the time of big bands, Brass 5 will play some of America's best music from the best artists, including Miller, Ellington, Dorsey and Basie.
 
The band is comprised of trumpet players Gerald Pope and Brian Quakenbush, French horn player Patrick Driscoll, trombone player Ed Griffin, and tuba player RobertChernault, along with percussionist Sam Nash.
 
Season tickets for the remainder of the 2012-2013 Blue Mountain Performing Arts Series, including events through May, will be on sale at the Brass 5 event. For more information, contact the Bluefield College Department of Music at 276-326-4248.
