Charmco woman charged with embezzlement


LEWISBURG, W.Va. (AP) -- A former employee faces charges of taking money from the Greenbrier County Committee on Aging Inc.

West Virginia State Police arrested Lisa C. Ayers of Charmco on Monday. She's charged with forgery, access device fraud and embezzlement.

State police spokesman 1st Sgt. Michael Baylous says an investigation by Cpl. G.J. Reed found that money was taken from the agency over the past two years through illegal ATM withdrawals and the issuance of fraudulent checks.

The investigation stemmed from a complaint by representatives of the agency. Baylous says Ayers formerly served as the agency's financial officer.She remains free on bond following an appearance in magistrate court.

South Charleston, West Virginia – On February 15, 2013, Corporal G. J. Reed, of the Lewisburg Detachment of the West Virginia State Police received a complaint from representatives of the Greenbrier County Committee on Aging Inc., in regards to an alleged embezzlement.  Upon receiving the complaint, Corporal Reed launched an investigation into the allegations and discovered a substantial amount of money being embezzled from the agency.  Corporal Reed discovered the money was stolen from the Committee on Aging through the issuance of fraudulent checks and illegal ATM withdraws that has occurred over the past two years.
Corporal Reed established probable cause to arrest Ms. Lisa C. Ayers from Charmco, WV, on February 25, 2013.  She was charged with forgery, access device fraud, and embezzlement and was released on bond after an appearance before a Greenbrier County Magistrate.   Mrs. Ayers was previously employed as the Financial Officer for the agency.
