BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - A strong low pressure system is rapidly approaching the Two Virginias and as a result, numerous winter weather/wind advisories and some high wind warnings have gone into effect across the area.

Freezing rain advisories and winter weather advisories are in effect for all Two Virginias counties except Buchanan county from midnight tonight through the early afternoon hours of Tuesday.

Both advisories were issued because of the threat of freezing rain across the area. Areas east of I-77 will see the most freezing rain, with ice accumulations from a tenth of an inch to two tenths of an inch possible. Areas west of I-77 should see ice accumulations of a few hundredths of an inch to a tenth of an inch possible.

The exception is Pocahontas county, where an ice storm warning is in effect during the previously mentioned time period for ice accumulations ranging from  a quarter of an inch to four tenths of an inch.

Wind advisories are also in effect from midnight tonight until tomorrow evening for all counties except Monroe, Giles, Bland, and Wythe. A high wind warning is in effect for Tazewell during the previously mentioned time frame. Winds sustained out of the southeast at 20-30 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 miles per hour are possible, with 60 miles per hour wind gusts possible in Tazewell county.

Combining the ice with the wind, and we get dangerously slick roads and the possibility for downed trees and power lines. These conditions will effect the morning commute to school or work tomorrow, so please take caution when traveling tomorrow morning as roads will be slick.

For more information on this low pressure system, check out our WVVA Weather Facebook page if you haven't already. Updates are also posted on our WVVA Weather Twitter page.
