Man charged in fatal crash - WVVA TV Bluefield Beckley WV News, Weather and Sports

BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - A Mercer County man has been charged in a New Year's Day accident that left one person dead.

Kester Lane, 28, of Bramwell was arrested Sunday afternoon at his home. Lane is charged with DUI causing death in connection with a Jan. 1 accident that killed 50-year-old Michael Manns of Bluefield.

Lane was driving along Bluefield Avenue around 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 when he crashed into Manns' car. Manns died at the scene.

Police say Lane's blood alcohol level was above the legal limit of .08. He was also charged with two counts of operating a vehicle without a DUI testing device -- also known as an interlock system.

Lane is a previous DUI offender. He was released on $10,000 bond.
