FORT KNOX, Ky. (NEWS RELEASE) – A Fort Knox Soldier and his spouse were found this morning with gunshot wounds in their on-post residence by military police.  One of the individuals was deceased and the other was given first aid by military police, but died at the scene.

Fort Knox Police responded to the on-post residence at about 3:40 a.m. after receiving a 911 phone call from the residence.  The four responding officers heard gunfire inside the residence upon arrival and entered the residence where they found two individuals, both with gunshot wounds.

Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, commonly referred to as CID, immediately responded to the scene.  According to Chris Grey, the spokesman for CID, early indications are that this tragic incident appears to be the result of a domestic dispute, but a final determination will not be made until a thorough investigation is conducted.

The names of the dead are being withheld until 24 hours after their families have been notified.  Post officials want to ensure the Fort Knox community that there is no existing threat to the public at this time.

Two children were in the residence at the time of the incident.  Neither was injured.  Those children are currently under the care and custody of the Kentucky Department for Community Based Services.

The deaths remain under investigation by CID.  No further information will be released at this time while the investigation is underway.
