New officer at the Beckley Police Department

BECKLEY, W.Va.--- Joseph J. Stewart was sworn in this morning, February 19th, as a new officer for the Beckley Police Department.

Stewart was sworn in at 9:00 am by Mayor Emmett S. Pugh. The ceremony took place at City Hall located on S. Kanawha St. Beckley in font of friends and family.

Officer Stewart was a graduate of the WV State Police Academy and has been working as a police officer in Hinton, WV since 2006. He has grown up in the East Park area of Beckley.

He will complete an 8 week Field Training Program where he will train with a veteran officer before working on his own.

There are currently 49 police officers that serve the community of Beckley.
