'Harlem Shake' craze hits Va. Tech campus

BLACKSBURG (WVVA) - The latest dance craze sweeping the country now has a Hokie Nation version.

Hundreds of Virginia Tech students -- and the Hokie Bird -- have made their own version of the viral video.

The students came out in droves at the request of freshman John Russell, who came up with the idea to make a video on the Blacksburg campus.

"I thought a lot of people at Virginia Tech would enjoy coming out and doing this," Russell told NBC affiliate WSLS. "It's just fun to get a bunch of Hokies out here and do something all together.

Russell started a Facebook page for the event that quickly garnered more than 1,400 RSVPs. He was even able to recruit the school's Hoke Bird mascot.
