Medical Marijuana Bill Introduced in WV

Posted:

CHARLESTON (WVVA)--- For the third time, a bill to try and legalize medical marijuana has been introduced in West Virginia.

Taylor County Delegate Mike Manypenny introduced the bill Friday to the House Health and Human Resources Committee.

In two previous attempts the bill has been shot down and not heard.

"It would be unconscionable to deny a hearing on this bill again," said Matt Simon, a legislative analyst for the Marijuana Policy Project.

"There is an abundance of evidence demonstrating the benefits medical marijuana can provide to people suffering from a variety of debilitating medical conditions," says Matt Simon

But not everyone is for the bill.

"If they do the legalization piece, what we are afraid of is again they will lead back into other drugs in their communities," says Greg Puckett of Community Connections.

"You know prescription drugs are a great thing but the way we abuse them in our society is becoming detrimental. Marijuana can fit that role exactly."
