Tanker carrying toxic materials crashes on I-64

BECKLEY (WVVA) - Traffic blocked for hours early Friday morning after a tanker carrying toxic materials overturned.

The tanker -- carrying sodium hydroxide -- flipped on its side in the eastbound lane of Interstate 64 in Raleigh County -- near the split with Interstate 77.

Traffic was blocked in all lane of both interstates for hours as crews worked to clear the scene.

The Mabscott Volunteer Fire Department, Jan Care Ambulance, Beckley City Police and the West Virginia State Police all responded to the scene.

Hazmat was also called in.

One person was transported to Raleigh General Hospital with unknown injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the West Virginia State Police.
