BLUEFIELD (WVVA)--- A former chief financial officer of the City of Bluefield has been indicted on charges of embezzling approximately $5,000 from the city.

Mercer County Prosecutor Scott Ash tells WVVA News that former CFO Claude Crigger allegedly took the money from the city's Holiday of Lights and Ridge Runner funds.

Crigger had resigned his position with the city in November, following a meeting with city officials regarding penalties levied by the Internal Revenue Service against three city bank accounts, according to a previous report.

The city notified State Police once the possible embezzlement was discovered.

On December of 2012 the State Police informed city officials that an investigation concluded that Crigger had illegally converted city finances for his own personal use.

Mercer County returned its indictments for the Feb. 2013 term this week. Chick here for the full list
