    MERCER CO. (WVVA) - Dustie Beller was on trial for running over a woman with her car all for chainsaw. While she was found not guilty of attempted murder, the jury did find her guilty of petty larceny, conspiracy, failure to stop and render aid, and malicious wounding. The victim had this to say about the verdict. "Um very happy,” Mackenzie Ansley said. “To be expected -- the attempted murder charge. I knew coming into it, it was an iffy charge. RICHLANDS (WVVA) - Buchanan County native and CEO of the parent company of Food City will serve as guest speaker at this year's Richlands Area chamber Banquet.

Steve Smith, president and CO of K-VA-T Food Stores -- owners of the Food City grocery chain -- will speak at the annual event, to be held at Southwest Community College in Richlands.

According to a press release from the chamber, Smith was raised in Grundy and earned his bachelor's in business administration from James Madison University.  Throughout his 33 years of employment with Food City, Smith has served in numerous key positions, before assuming his current position of president and chief executive officer.

K-VA-T Food Stores is headquartered in Abingdon and operates 93 Food City supermarkets, eleven Super Dollar Discount Foods and one convenient store throughout Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.

Smith has served on the boards of Topco, Wellmont Health Care Systems, Bristol Chamber of Commerce and Weis Supermarkets and is a member of Sequoyah Council of the Boy Scouts of America, National Grocers Association, serving as Chairman from 2000 to 2002 and 2006/2007 Campaign for the United Way of Washington County and other organizations.  In addition to serving as past chairman for Food Marketing Institute, Mr. Smith also serves on FMI's Executive, Board Planning and Public Affairs Committee, the Governor's Job Creation Commission and JMU's Board of Visitors and is the Board Chairman of Topco Associates LLC.

The Chamber will also present its 2012 Distinguished Citizenship Award at the event.

The annual banqet and membership meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 21. The cost is $35 per person for Chamber members or $40 for non-Chamber members.
