Record January adoptions at local animal shelter

Posted:

LEWISBURG, W. Va (WVVA)-- The Greenbrier County Humane Society saw a record number of adoptions in January.

76 total pets were able to find homes last month.

The previous record was 74. It was set back in 2010.

"It was like an adoption explosion," said Leila Georgopoulous. "We were so excited."

This month, the humane society's goal is 50 adoptions.

"We've already seen it slow down," said Georgopoulous. "We know that not every month is going to be as good as [last January] but we're always going to try to aim high."

The kennels are all full again, though.  The shelter is running a special on puppy adoptions this month, and they say they are full of both cats and dogs until the ones they have find good homes.
