BECKLEY (WVVA)--- During Friday night's community meeting about school violence in Beckley, Raleigh County Sheriff Steve Tanner said to WVVA that he will not enforce federal laws against the 2nd Amendment.

"Should something affect the Second Amendment it would never be enforced by local laws simply because they have no jurisdiction in the state of West Virginia nor would we enforce a federal law," said Sheriff Tanner.

He says that he does not believe that there will be any major changes or laws against the 2nd Amendment.

During the same meeting Congressman Nick Rahall said that it might take time to create and pass legislation on gun control.

"This is such a complicated issue," Rahall said.

"You talk about the assault weapons ban, what exactly is an assault weapon? That is a complicated issue right there. So these are complicated issues, they are emotional issues and they will get a pretty good scrutiny in Congress."
