OAK HILL (WVVA) - A murder case has been dismissed against an Oak Hill man who was arrested last week following a death at his apartment.

Charges against Jeffrey Dale Lafferty were dropped due to lack of evidence, Fayette County chief prosecutor Carl Harris confirmed to WVVA News Tuesday.

Lafferty had originally been charged with murder after police discovered 46-year-old Michael Sheets unresponsive in Lafferty's apartment while responding to a trespassing call on Monday, Jan. 21.

Sheets was pronounced dead later at Plateau Medical Center.

A cause of death for Sheets had not been released.
