ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- A Virginia State Police trooper run down by a driver is getting out of the hospital.
State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says Trooper A. J. Jones will be released from Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Monday.
Geller says Jones was struck on Saturday when he stopped to check on a pedestrian in the road. The man became combative after Jones offered assistance and struggled with the officer. He then fled in a car.
Jones saw another vehicle also leaving the scene and gestured for that driver to stop. Instead, the driver steered the car at Jones and struck the trooper. The driver then fled.
The incident remains under investigation. No arrests have been made.
State police are asking the public to report any information about the vehicles.
