Posted:

ATHENS, W.Va. – Individuals planning to attend college in the fall of 2013 – regardless of age or income – are invited to participate in College Goal Sunday workshops at Concord University's Athens and Beckley campuses on Feb. 10.

College Goal Sunday is an opportunity for students and families to receive free, confidential help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The event, which offers one-on-one help from financial aid professionals, is also open to students already enrolled in college.

Concord University is one of more than 20 locations across West Virginia hosting College Goal Sunday workshops. The session on the Athens campus will be held in the Rahall Technology Center Room 130 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Concord representatives will staff a workshop at the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center (off of I-64 in Beaver) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in W 32 & W 33.

Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Participants can pre-register for an appointment at www.cfwv.com

Students and families participating should bring their social security numbers and 2012 tax records. Those who have not yet completed their 2012 taxes can bring their 2011 forms. For a complete list of what to bring visit www.cfwv.com

Free tax preparation will be provided on-site in Athens for students and families completing a FAFSA that day. This service is available for these persons only and certain restrictions apply.

Students who participate in College Goal Sunday will be entered for a chance to win an Apple iPad. One iPad will be given away at each College Goal Sunday location.

For more information contact Terri Philpott at tphilpott@concord.edu or 304-384-5282. Additional details are also available at www.cfwv.com

College Goal Sunday West Virginia is coordinated by the College Foundation of West Virginia (CFWV), an initiative of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, in conjunction with the Community and Technical College System of West Virginia, the West Virginia Department of Education, the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts and West Virginia GEAR UP.
