FOLLOW UP: Officers involved in fatal shooting return to duty

Posted:

LEWISBURG (WVVA) - Police officers who were placed on a leave of absence following last week's fatal shooting of a man following a traffic stop have returned to duty.

Sgt. Michael Baylous of the West Virginia State Police told WVVA News last week that three officers -- two state troopers and one Lewisburg policeman -- were place on leave to deal with the events of the shooting.

Sgt. Pendleton at the Lewisburg detachment of the State Police says, as of this week, each officer has returned to duty.

A chaplain and other services were available to the officers while on leave.

Police say Jimmy L. Hamlin Jr., 44, of Kathleen, Ga., was shot dead after threatening officers with a rifle after a traffic stop on Route 219 in Lewisburg.

Hamlin was pulled over in response to a previous domestic violence report.
