MONTCALM (WVVA) - Police have released more details in a Saturday night incident in the Montcalm area that resulted in a sheriff's deputy fatally shooting a man.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home on Surface Hill Road around 10 p.m. Saturday night, according to Sgt. D.W. Miller of the West Virginia State Police.

Upon arrival, Miller said an unnamed deputy encountered a man -- identified as 31-year-old Jason Dillon -- wielding a club inside the home.

Miller said the deputy fatally shot Dillon after he came toward the officer in an aggressive manner.

Dillon lived in the home with his girlfriend. Police say she was unharmed.

It is unclear who made the initial 911 call.

The name of the deputy involved has not been released.
