Classes start at Marsh Fork Elementary's new home

(WVVA) - Monday marks the first day in class for students and staff at Marsh Fork Elementary in their new, state of the art building.

With public funds and private donations, the county built the new location for precautionary purposes.  The old facility was close to a coal silo that could have caused health hazards.

"There's just a lot of ‘what could happens' there, and I know a lot of people joined together to make this school happen.  It's state of the art, no holds barred.  These kids have absolutely the best of everything," says Tracie Wood, interim principal.

The school has top notch security equipment, plus smart boards in every classroom and a virtual computer lab.  Other features include a kitchen that is a step down from the lunch line, so students are at eye level with the servers, and the old Marsh Fork High School Bulldog logo displayed on the wall in the gymnasium.

"It's amazing.  It's breathtaking," says Wood.  "You know all the hard work, when you saw them come in this morning, every bit of it was worth it."
