New sheriff reviews missing girl case

Posted:

WESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Lewis County's new sheriff is planning an aggressive investigation of a 3-year-old girl's disappearance in 2011.

Sheriff Adam Gissy says he and Chief Deputy Randy Hyre are reviewing the case files. Gissy tells The Exponent Telegram that he hopes they'll notice something that others may have missed.

Gissy says he wants to bring some closure to the case, if possible.

The FBI also is investigating Aliayah Lunsford's disappearance.

The child vanished from her Bendale home on Sept. 24, 2011. Authorities have classified her disappearance as a crime. But they have made no arrests and named no suspects.
