Maryland beats Virginia Tech 94-71

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Freshman guard Jake Layman scored 18 of his 20 points in the decisive first half, and Maryland rolled past Virginia Tech 94-71 Saturday for its 13th consecutive victory.

The Terrapins' winning streak is tied for the second longest in school history behind a 14-game run in 1931-32. After defeating 12 non-league opponents, Maryland opened the Atlantic Coast Conference portion of its schedule with a satisfying romp.

Seth Allen scored 21 points and Alex Len had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Terrapins (13-1, 1-0), who never trailed after Layman hit a 3-pointer off the opening tip.

It was the Terrapins' second-most lopsided victory over Virginia Tech, behind only a 51-16 rout in 1932.

Layman started in place of injured Nick Faust, who saw limited time off the bench before leaving in the first half with a sore shoulder.

Erick Green scored 28 for Virginia Tech (9-5, 0-1
