Inactive grenade causes road shutdown in Vienna

Posted:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Police say an inactive grenade found in the parking lot of a Vienna tire store caused the shutdown of roads in the area.

WTOP-FM reports Vienna police were called to the Merchant's Tire & Auto Centers at 141 Maple Avenue West at around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A police spokesman says the Fairfax County bomb squad was called in to evaluate the grenade but it was determined to be inactive. The scene was cleared and roads reopened around 9:30 a.m.
