ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (AP) -- A woman accused of running over a West Virginia State Police trooper with her car has turned herself in to authorities.

State police tell media outlets that Jennifer Garretson of Charleston was charged with malicious wounding after she turned herself in Wednesday.

State police say Sgt. Aaron Nichols remains in intensive care.

Nichols was off duty when he attempted to stop a woman for shoplifting on Monday at a store in the St. Albans Mall. He chased the woman outside. She got into her car and backed into the officer while fleeing.
