Website posting raises rural Va. school concerns

Posted:

A rural school system in southwest Virginia is canceling the start of classes in the new year because of concerns about an online posting that mentions the school massacre in Connecticut and local schools.

Virginia State Police alerted the Giles County Schools of the posting and media reports state the county schools will be closed Wednesday as a precaution.

The sheriff's office scheduled a news conference Tuesday to discuss the situation.
Superintendent Terry Arbogast posted a letter on the school's website that said no specific threats have been made at any schools in the county.

The website causing the concern mentions Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., and "Narrows Schools." The district includes schools in the town of Narrows.
