Princeton family receives gifts after fire destroys their home

PRINCETON, W. Va (WVVA)-- The Thompson family lost everything in a fire on Friday, including their dogs, and left the scene with just the clothes on their backs.

But Monday afternoon, they received help from those who risk their lives fighting fires.

The East River Volunteer Fire Department saw the Thompsons' need and knew they had to do something to support the family. They decided to organize a collection.

Monday, they gave the family back their Christmas, along with other things to get them through-- toys, clothes, and even some money.

The family told WVVA they could not be more grateful. "They didn't have to do any of this, they did their work putting out the fire," Jonathan Thompson said. "And they're just trying to give back to us and we really appreciate it, we just couldn't say thank you enough. It means the world to us."

The ghost riders, a motorcycle club in mercer county, also donated some money to the Thompsons.

The family said they are still trying to figure out what their next move is to begin rebuilding their life.
