Car accident on I-64 leaves one in critical condition

HARTS RUN, W. Va (WVVA)-- Crews have cleared the scene after an accident on eastbound I-64 Monday Morning.

It happened around the 175th mile marker near the Harts Run area close to White Sulphur Springs.

Corporal Gary Workman of the Greenbrier County Sheriff's Office said one vehicle lost control on a patch of ice, flipped over into the median and caught on fire. Bystanders were able to rescue the driver, who was unharmed, and put the fire out.

But another vehicle also lost control, hit a guard rail and rolled over onto one of the people as they were still standing in the median. Crews needed to close down that section of the road to clear the scene, and re-routed traffic onto Route 60.

That person is in critical condition at this time and is being transferred to the Charleston Area Medical Center for further treatment.
