BECKLEY (WVVA) - A man has been arrested on murder charges after another is stabbed to death inside his own home.

Jeremy Edgell, 24, of Beckley is charged with first-degree murder. Police say 57-year-old John Lilly of Beckley was killed Monday night at a home on South Oakwood Avenue.

Lilly was stabbed multiple times. Police say it appears Lilly and Edgell were involved in a heated argument.

Police say it appears alcohol was involved.

Lilly was pronounced dead at Raleigh General Hospital.  Edgell was caught shortly after that.

"We were able to locate Mr. Edgell in an abandoned building off of Robert C. Byrd Dr. here in Beckley," says Cpl. Dave Allard of the Beckley Police Department. "He was interviewed, and ultimately admitted that he was responsible for this incident."

Police say this is not typical for the neighborhood.

"This is just a residential neighborhood...  This was an isolated incident.  Just two individuals in an altercation, and unfortunately one person made some bad choices, and it lead to the death of Mr. Lilly," says Allard.

Edgell is currently being held without bond at Southern Regional Jail.
