Mayor of Oak Hill steps down to pursue military career

OAK HILL (WVVA) - Oak Hill Mayor Jon Lopez is stepping down in order to pursue a full-time career in the military.

Lopez made the announcement at Monday night's town council meeting. He has previously been involved with the military on a part-time basis.

Councilman Fred Dickinson was appointed to fill the position of mayor, leaving a spot vacant in Ward 1 on the council.

Board members are reviewing possible applicants to fill the Ward 1 position.

Dickinson will serve as mayor until 2015. Lopez became mayor in July of 2011.
