COAL CITY (WVVA)--- Most put up some kind of lights in and around their home for Christmas, but one local man is taking it to the next level.
You have probably seen some of these houses on YouTube, lights that go on and off from the sound of music.
Derek Dotson says that his childhood memories come from he and his grandfather decorating for Christmas.
"I grew up decorating every year with my grandpa," said Dotson
"It just brings me so much joy then and I wanted to continue what he started, but he died eight years ago."
Shortly after that, Dotson did some research and found the right technology, and the right amount of lights to turn his home into a spectacle around the holidays.
"Well we have 50 to 60 thousand lights and about two thousand seven hundred C-9 bulbs just on the roof. It takes a about three months to get everything set up."
But he says, that it is all worth it.
"I love it, I love seeing the faces on not only the kids, but the parents too."
