PRINCETON, WV, November 26, 2012:  The WV Secondary School Activities Commission (SSAC) has announced that former PSHS head football coach Ted Spadaro has been named 2012 Coach of the Year.

The National Federation High School Association cited Spadaro's excellence and leadership in the coaching profession as attributes deserving recognition.   Spadaro will officially receive the award at the State Football Tournament.

In its press release, the SSAC said, "Congratulations to Ted Spadaro for being named 2012 NFHS Coach of the Year.  We appreciate your dedication to the sport of football and your commitment to the development of young people throughout the state of West Virginia."

Princeton fans said goodbye to their long-time coach last year when Spadaro resigned after 23 years of Princeton football.  Since taking the reins in 1989, Coach Spadaro tallied 120 career victories and nine trips to the playoffs, four of those advancing to second round.

Of the recognition, Spadaro said, "I am truly humbled by such a prestigious award. Coaching has been my life and my love, next to God and my family.  This award is particularly sweet now at this time in my life.  Thanks to everyone who has played a role in making my career so memorable, especially my players."

Although he retired his whistle and playbook to spend more time with family, Spadaro continues to teach at PHS.  In his familiar straw hat, he has appeared on the practice field numerous times to encourage the team and assist his replacement, Coach Randy Peek.
