WAR (WVVA) - A McDowell County Middle School was the site of a staged shooting Tuesday -- all done in an effort to prepare emergency officials for the worst.
The McDowell County Office of Emergency Services in Cooperation with local, county, and state law enforcement agencies, county fire and EMS services, and the McDowell County School system, conducted the drill Tuesday at the South Side Middle School in War.
Law enforcement staged an emergency situation which consisted of two shooters coming into the school to retaliate against the principal. Officials coordinated a plan to get inside, stop the shooters, and rescue a group of students.
The scenario is meant to prepare law enforcement agencies in case an emergency situation should ever occur.
Students from the Criminal Justice Studies Program at River View High School helped out during the drill.
