ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- A retired investigator is making a public plea for information about a Virginia Tech student's slaying.

Former Virginia State Police Lt. Joe Rader says in an open letter that whoever has information about Morgan Harrington's death should come forward. He appeals to them to "do the right thing."

The letter is addressed to "The Person With Information on Morgan Harrington's Death."

Harrington disappeared in October 2009 after leaving a concert at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. The 20-year-old Roanoke woman's remains were found in January 2010 in a hayfield in Albemarle County.

Rader was the lead investigator in the case until he retired earlier this year. Media outlets report that he released the letter Tuesday.
