Job seekers battle more obstacles in the job search

Posted:

BLUEFIELD, W.Va (WVVA)-- The job search is becoming more and more complicated. Experts say it is not the same as it was five years ago because job seekers have more obstacles to get through.

The first thing applicants must have are two legal ID's. Experts say it is surprising just how many people do not have the credentials to get past the first step. Another obstacle is background checks.

The next step is drug testing. Southern West Virginia and Southwest Virginia battle a huge drug problem and drugs are playing a big role in why area businesses are having a difficult hiring people. Employers are seeing more people not able to pass a drug test and fill available positions.

Experts say almost all businesses will drug test applicants. Some places like Princeton Community Hospital will let applicants know up front they will be drug tested. This is one way they can ensure they are keeping a safe and drug-free work place.
