Lawmaker plans to introduce bullet-proof vest bill

OAK HILL (WVVA) - A West Virginia senator has introduced a bill that could soon be national legislation.

The bill would require all law enforcement to wear bullet-proof vests when exercising any duties related to their line of work.

State Sen. Bill Laird announced plans for the bill at the Oak Hill City Council meeting earlier this week.

The movement was sparked after two Oak Hill officers were shot in the chest, but suffered only minor injuries because they were wearing vests.

Laird hopes funding would be made available to help pay for the vests. He plans to introduce the bill during the next legislative session.
