BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - WVVA News has learned from family members that longtime former news anchor Crockett J. 'Tiny' Thompson has died. He was 80 years old.

Thompson died Tuesday, Nov. 6, at a Tazewell area hospital.

Thompson was a fixture on WVVA -- formerly WHIS-TV -- for more than 30 years, serving as anchor and news director. Thompson was well remembered by longtime viewers.

In addition to his television duties, Thompson was also an Army veteran and served in several other lines of work including school bus driver and director of safety and security at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

Thompson was also an entrepreneur, running multiple businesses in the Bluefield area.

Thompson leaves behind his wife, Peggy, and three sons.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6-8 p.m.
