Family of bow and arrow victim marches in protest

BECKLEY (WVVA) - The family of a man killed by a bow and arrow in Beckley earlier this year says they want justice.

The family of Christopher Saunders marched in protest outside the Raleigh County Courthouse Wednesday, questioning the decision not to press charges in the 23-year-old's June 29 death outside a residence on Carmellia Street in Prosperity.

Charges were not filed in the case following the preliminary investigation. Witness statments corroborated the claim that the homeowner fired in self defense.

The name of the shooter has not been released.

Raleigh County Prosecutor Kristen Keller said that even if the case went to trial, it would be dismissed by a judge.

"The person who fired the shot -- the arrow -- was under the law and acting in self defense," Keller said.

Keller said under the 'Castle Doctrine,' homeowners have a legal right to protect themselves.
