NEWHALL (WVVA) - A male who was unaccounted for immediately following a house fire in McDowell County Monday night has been confirmed dead, the Associated Press reports.

NEWHALL (WVVA) - McDowell County 911 confirms at least one person is dead in a fire in the Newhall area of McDowell County.
The War and Berwind fire departments worked to extinguish the blaze at the home on Main Street Monday evening.
Neighbors tell WVVA's Josh Frketic at the scene that the home belonged to a 68-year-old female named Willie Malone.
Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the body recovered from the fire, only that it was a female.
A male who neighbors said lived at the residence remains unaccounted for.
One neighbor told WVVA News he heard an explosion before the fire. The neighbor said the blast knocked him from a ladder he was standing on at the time.
The state fire marshal is on the scene.
