Marines Have Pool Meet in Beckley

Posted:

BECKLEY (WVVA)--- Not many people enjoy to be yelled at. But when you head to Parris Island for boot camp with the Marines, it is not a bad thing to get a head start at getting used to it.

"I have never been a big fan of people yelling at me, but it is something to get used to and it is an experience and I do enjoy it and I am ready for this," says Dylan Hayslett, a Marine recruit from Monroe County.

In Beckley on Saturday, Marine recruiters from multiple states got together for what is called a "pool day" where the Marines host a day for recruits to see the progress they have made before the get to boot camp, plus they get to see first hand how intimidating drill sergeants are.

"It is something that they have probably never experienced in their life before and this being their first time it is probably a shock to them," said Sgt. Jared Stiles.

"But this is an opportunity of a lifetime and that is why we do this at least twice a year."
