According to the National Climatic Data Center, this past September tied the record for the highest global temperature for any September on record, which dates back to 1880. The average land and sea surface temperature was 61.3 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, the Arctic sea-ice area was the lowest on record since those began in 1979. In the United States, the January – September period was the warmest on record, which dates back to 1895, while global that period ranks eight warmest on record.
