PULASKI (WVVA) - Final respects were paid Thursday to a Virginia State Trooper with Tazewell County ties who was struck and killed by a vehicle in the line of duty last week.
A funeral service for Trooper Andrew D. Fox was held Thursday at The Refreshing Center, formerly the Pulaski Church of God, in Pulaski at 2 p.m.
Fox, 27, was to be laid to rest at the Summerfield United Methodist Church Cemetery in Elk Creek, Va., in Grayson County, following the service.
Fox was a Tazewell County native and Virginia Tech graduate who served with the Tazewell Police Department before becoming a state trooper. He was currently assigned to Pulaski County.
Fox was directing traffic at the State Fair on Route 30 in Hanover County last Friday when he was struck and killed by an SUV.
Fox was wearing his safety vest when struck.
Charges are still pending as the investigation into the crash continues.
The state police superintendent, Col. W. Steven Flaherty, called Fox highly regarded and his death a "tremendous loss." He was the 58th state police officer killed in the line of duty in its 80-year history.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Virginia State Police Association Emergency Relief Fund at 6944 Forest Hill Driver, Richmond VA, 23225.
