BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - Bluefield's fire chief tells WVVA News the reason for his resignation stems from the Cumberland Road fire house that's been closed due to staffing issues.

Sutphin says new city manager Jim Ferguson wants to keep the station open regardless of how many workers are on a shift.

Sutphin says he will remain with the department as a captain.

BLUEFIELD (WVVA)--- WVVA's Josh Frketic has confirmed this evening from Bluefield, West Virginia Mayor Linda Whalen that fire Chief Glenn Sutphin has turned in his resignation to the city manager.

Mayor Whalen says that Chief Sutphin will remain in the position until it is filled. The search is expected to begin tomorrow.

Whalen says that Sutphin is resigning as Chief, but is staying on the force in his previous role as Captain.

The city has had problems with staffing and keeping their Cumberland Road station operational because of staffing.
