BECKLEY (WVVA)--- First it was a book, then a movie, and now a play. It all stemmed from the ideas of one man. Homer Hickam.
Saturday his ideas and life were honored at the Exhibition Coal Mine in Beckley.
This was the first year that the event was held in Beckley and not in McDowell County.
Hickam says that he loves to meet the people that come from all of the country just to be able to hear their stories on what the book meant to them.
The event had homemade rocket launches, music, and tours of the mine.
If you had the time to wait, you also had the chance to meet Hickam and get him to sign a book.
