JONESVILLE, N.C. (WVVA) - An arrest has been made in a North Carolina cold case with local ties -- nearly 16 years to the day of the tragic shooting.

Scott Vincent Sica, 36, was arrested at his home Wednesday evening in Cape Coral, Fla., according to a news release form the Lee County Fla. Sheriff's Office.

He is being held without bond awaiting extradition to North Carolina.

Sica is charged in the shooting death of Jonesville, N.C. Police Sgt. Gregory Martin. Martin was killed during a routine traffic stop near Exit 82 on Interstate 77 on Oct. 5, 1996.

The vehicle that Martin pulled over -- a red Dodge Ram pickup -- had been stolen from a Ramey car dealership in Princeton. It was later abandoned in nearby Elkin, N.C.

NBC affiliate WXII spoke with Martin's daughter, Ericka Miller, who said the news of the arrest brought long-awaited relief.

"I was able to lay down and sleep knowing that the right person was repsonsible and they finally cauhgt him," Miller said. " I can just sleep easy and not have to second guess anybody and trust again."
