Beckley, W.Va. — The YMCA of Southern West Virginia will launch the 4th Annual Triathlon Sprint Series on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 a.m. The series will continue with events on Jan. 12 and March 9.
"The triathlon series is designed for those who are new to competing as well as athletes who want to keep up their training," said Health and Wellness Director Reginia Thomas. "This event provides community members with the opportunity to swim, bike and run without major distances."
The first event will consist of 250 meters swimming, 12 miles biking and 2.5 miles running, and distances will increase with each event in the series.
The triathlon is open to Y members and non-members at least 13 years of age, and participants may register as individuals or teams for a single event or the entire series.
Registration forms are available at the Y Welcome Center, 121 E. Main St., Beckley, and online at www.ymcaswv.com. Registration for the November event will close Monday, Nov. 5.
Each participant in the first two events will receive a t-shirt, gel pack and medal. During the March 9 event awards will be given for accumulated points from all three races for the first, second and third place top male and female winners, for teams and the Clydesdale category, for participants over 230 pounds or over 60 years of age.
Volunteers are needed to assist with timing and lap counting for all races in the series.
