BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - A fund has been established for the woman shot at her Bluefield home Monday night.

Donations for Monika Watkins can be made at any First Century Bank location or mailed to the Monika Watkins Community Help Fund, PO Box 82, Bluefield, WV 24701.

Watkins is currently in critical condition at a Roanoke hospital. Her husband, John Douglas Watkins, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of a shotgun wound.

A nephew told WVVA News Wednesday that Monika is recovering from a gunshot wound to the head. She is expected to have to undergo several surgeries, but is responding to treatment.

The suspect in the shooting, Donald Adams confessed to shooting the elderly couple after his arrest Tuesday. On Wednesday he was found dead in his Bluefield jail cell, the result of an apparent suicide.

Adams and the Watkins family had been neighbors in the past. Neighbors say Adams frequently visited the Watkins home.
